Covering a Line Set

    You can’t get enough pressure even holding your thumb over the line to move oil out of the line sets. Oil doesn’t move that easily. However that’s really not the problem. The amount of mineral oil left in the line set isn’t that big of a deal. It doesn’t effect the misabilty of the new oil significantly. I’m not system don’t try to get some of it out if the lines are staying. But you’re not getting it all. The real problem is mineral oil is carbon based and the new oil acts like a stripper and cleans the carbon deposits off the inside of the line set and washes the old crud of the old lines into the new system. You don’t really want crud and acids from a burnt out compressor in the new system. Chances are the flush starts when the new unit is installed on the old lines. Personally, if it only cost $500 to change the lines; I’d start fresh. Money well spent IHMO.

    Purging with nitrogen when brazing should become the law of the land, as well as installing filter/dryer......Too many scrupulous contractors cutting corners at the expense of homeowners.

    thought you were going to show us how it is done, do not particullarly care that your company is doing it the correct way as mine was improperly (compressor/drier) installed as no purge, vacuum) was ever performed.

    How do you connect pre-charged lines so you don't need to purge them?

    • @jpdavis129
      @jpdavis129 2 года назад

      For precharged lines, there is no need to purge them as you are not soldering and they are already full of refrigerant. In most of those setups, you simple connect the screw-on copper line-set fitting and as you tighten with a wrench a piercing valve opens up the refrigerant inside to the entire system. These are often used on ductless units and remote refrigeration systems.

    flow 3~6 psi of nitrogen while brazing to solve problems 5+ years down the road. The video tells you how important it is to flow nitrogen into the line set while brazing. Video no give any solution.

    For the ordinary mini split AC's 1ton/1.5/2ton etc - you think nitrogen purging is needed?

    • @jpdavis129
      @jpdavis129 2 года назад

      Nitrogen purging is even more important on ductless due to common use of electronic expansion valves with smaller orifice to get plugged up . We make efforts to never solder on ductless by using zoom lock compression fittings or cutting and installing compression fittings

    Very good job explaining nitrogen flow brazing which is very accurate, older refrigerant r22 does not scrub the system, new refrigerant 410a for example does which makes it more important to nitrogen flow during brazing. The title of the video was nitrogen purge which is done to clear the line of outside air which would contaminate the refrigerant

    Little nugget of info on why you do this: Copper will oxidize at room temperature, hence the statue of liberty turning green, but the rate of oxidation is drastically improved at higher temperatures. If there is any oxygen inside the tubing, there will be oxidation on the inner wall (that black stuff that flakes off) when brazing. This is not good. That's why its necessary to replace the oxygen inside the tubing with nitrogen.

    I see that ur flushing from liquid line to evaporator out to suction side,,,,so u do not cut lines from evap and flush from inside house down?

    • @Accutempbr
      @Accutempbr 4 года назад

      Great question! We use a loop system that attaches the cut refrigerant lines in attic together after evap coil is cut out, allowing us to flush and discharge all from outside. Without loop system; we flush each line independently from attic to outdoor, one at a time

    Finally some truth about the Nitrogen flow during brazing. I called so many companies to install my unit and none told me they use nitrogen. Pissed me off. Everyone out there acts like an AC tech but in reality they suck

    What brand/model purging regulator are you using?

    • @joshuadavis355
      @joshuadavis355 5 лет назад

      Richard Segui We use the Western VN-500. It’s a great regulator because it has preset positions of high, medium, and purge. This gives you exactly the psi you need rather than trying to regulate manually in the field. Too high of pressure during purging is a common issue that causes leaks on your last couple of joints from the pressure within. This regulator puts out the exact pressure you need to purge with.

    This is a nicely explained video. However, the title is unintentionally misleading. I'm working on my car's A/C and trying to find information on purging with nitrogen. This video doesn't explain how to do it or why it's important for a car A/C (no brazed or soldered lines). You should add something to the title to make that clear. Good video though and informative!

  • @justinmiller9482

    Is it important to purge if no brazing is done? I'm curious because I'm installing a mini split heat pump that is pre charged.

    • @joshuadavis355
      @joshuadavis355 6 лет назад

      Hey Justin, If using a pre-charged lineset, there is no need to purge with nitrogen. Make sure that you do not cut the lineset to shorten it, as this would would cause you to lose refrigerant within lineset and require an evacuation of lineset with vacuum pump. Good luck on your install!

    • @justinmiller9482
      @justinmiller9482 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the quick response. I will have to vacuum the lines. The condenser is charged, but the lines are not. I'll also need to add more refrigerant because I'll exceed the maximum length for the charge unit.

    Is nitrogen system the most important scope in plant utilities and maintenance?

  • @FTC2Kevin
    @FTC2Kevin 7 лет назад

    Good job Joshua and AccuTemp! As a representative of a major HVAC manufacturer, we cannot overstate the importance of proper nitrogen purging during copper brazing. If we use nitrogen purging during the manufacturing process, doesn't it make sense that the installing contractor do the same? This is one discipline that separates the boys and girls from the men and women in our profession. To accentuate your message, I suggest your viewers watch the linked video.
